On March 4, 2021, the Village Board of Trustees adopted the Government Operations Climate Action Plan (CAP). The CAP lays out the foundation for a five-year plan from 2021 to 2026 which covers Village efforts related to GHG emissions reduction, and provides information on ongoing and current projects, proposed projects, and sustainable climate action goals through 2026.The CAP provides details and a timeline on how the Village will measure progress toward meeting the sustainable climate action goals, including the reduction of greenhouse emissions. The CAP can be viewed here.
The goals and projects found in this plan are designed to meet two major initiatives:
Build upon past initiatives to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions
The Village of Montour Falls Government Operations Climate Action Plan is the culmination of over two years of research, policy adoptions, Climate Smart Communities actions, and community input. The plan is funded in part by a grant from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Climate Smart Communities Program. It has been completed and approved by the Montour Falls Sustainability Committee and the Village Board of Trustees. This plan would not have been possible without the dedication of the Climate Smart Communities Coordinator and the Cornell Cooperative Extension Team.
This project has been funded in part by TheClimate Smart Community Grant Program, Title 15 of the Environmental Protection Fund through the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.
Sustainable Montour Falls
As the Chair of the Sustainable Montour Falls Committee, I have the honor and responsibility to lead our Village through the Climate Smart Communities Certification Process by collaborating with local and regional partners, working with a supportive state government partner, embracing a collective impact approach to transform our Village and position this community to prosper far into the future. This robust position is pushing the present policy change of today and positively impacting our next generation of planning and investment. This Committee's impact stems from the collaborative effort of the state and federal government, local organizations, and regional planning entities to ensure that these policies and projects transform our village and inspire new investment opportunities.
